The Japanese Juggernaut

Tuesday March 19th 2013

The kids had the first game of the day this morning. It was going to be a long day with Japan this morning and then Aldergrove in the early evening. Its hard having two games in any one day but against these two strong teams it was always going to be a big ask.

After the warm up and the traditional exchange of gifts it was straight down to business. Our team worked really hard and made the Japanese earn the puck but it didn't take long before they scored.

The Japanese are just so impressive to watch. Their speed is incredible and they seem to always be in just the right position. If one player makes a mistake then there is always another ready to quickly back them up. Our kids fought so hard and certainly made the Japanese work for every goal they scored. We were so pleased to see that the Kangaroos also scored - only one goal - but its not easy to get on the board against this team.

When one of the Japanese players lost his footing he took Connor down with him. Connor was airborne as he went over the top of the #3 Japanese player landing hard on his head and shoulder. He was so thankful for his new helmet. In typical Connor style he just got up and kept going.

At the end of the game the fantastic effort put in by the Kangaroos showed on the scoreboard with the final score being 9-1. It truly was amazing that they were able to keep Japan in single figures. Time for a short break before the Aldergrove game this afternoon.
