Ryan Explores Fort Langley

Wednesday March 20th 2013

With Ryan having spent the night with Lynn, Lindsay and Maggie he went off on some new adventures for the day of rest from hockey. Today was the opportunity to explore Fort Langley. Fort Langley is the location, 150 years ago where a group of fur traders, the Hudson's Bay Company, established a small post to trade with the First Nations people of the West Coast. This industry grew and influenced history leading to the creation of the colony of British Colombia.

At Fort Langley Ryan learned about barrel making (cooperage), blacksmithing and forging, the fur trade and tried his hand at assembling a wooden pail. He also got to touch fox, wolf, mink, and beaver pelts. There was also the chance to see a demonstration of a flint lock rifle being fired with much smoke and noise. Ryan even got to hold a small rifle and try finger weaving.
