The Games Roll On...Tough as Expected

Friday March 22nd

This morning after breakfast we jumped in the car and made our way to the laundromat. The lady who ran the laundromat was lovely. She had a tiny little fluff ball pomerainien dog, Buddy, who came to work with her everyday. He was good to help pass the time.

After the washing was done we made our way to the rink to watch some of our host family's son, Jake's game against the Southern Knights. It was evident fairly early on that Aldergrove were going to win comfortably. The final score was 8-0.

We went back to the hotel for a little while before making our way back to the rink again for Connor's game against the Johnson Como Devils. We knew this was going to be a particularly tough game. Johnson had just come off another tournament and were large kids. We also heard that this morning that had beaten Japan, who until this point had been undefeated, 3-1.

As expected, this was a very tough game. Initially the players held their own but Johnson's superior skills soon showed on the score board. Apparently our team only had 12 shots on goal for the whole game against Johnson who had about 45 shots. Charlie, our goalie, played outstanding to keep the final score to 8-0.

Despite the score, Ryan enjoyed watching the game from the VIP area eating Tim Bits (cake and doughnuts) with Maggie.

This game took a toll on the players. Connor was exhausted. They have played nine hard games so far with the games and their emotional highs and lows and the late nights beginning to catch up with them. Thankfully tomorrow is a rest day. This should hopefully really help Connor. Ryan, as we have come to expect, bid us farewell and went back to Langley with David's parents and Maggie for the night. We took the opportunity to spend a little bit of time with Connor. We took him for a hot chocolate at Milsean's and then went to the drug store to get cream for his burn. After a stop at Dairy Queen for a Chocolate Blizzard he seemed in much better spirits. We returned him home to his host parents and dressed his burn before heading out to dinner in Fort Langley with Lynn, Lindsay, Maggie and Ryan.
We went to a little bistro called Lampliter. The atmosphere and lighting was beautiful, the service as always in Canada, was impeccable, and the food, David and I had venison in cabernet sauvignon wine sauce with Guinness caramelised onions and vegetables, was fantastic!! Another packed day was over.
