The Treasure Will Be Ours

Saturday April 6th 2013

A relatively slow start to the day again today. Our main mission was to go to the American Natural History Museum to uncover the answers to our final treasure hunt clues. After a quick stop at Starbucks for drinks and cookies we walked down The Mall to the museum.

The Natural History Museum was excellent. We explored exhibits about dinosaurs, fossil plants, ancient seas, the fossil lab, the ocean, human origins, mammals, the evolving universe, earth, moon and meteorites, gems and minerals, bones, forensic anthropology and Egyptian mummies.

Ryan in particular seemed to really become enthralled by many of the things he saw, read and learned about through interactive displays. Connor was also keen but was more focussed on things he could try or learn via computer. We also got to watch some great films about life in the deepest depths of the ocean and the origins of human kind. Thankfully we were able to solve all of our clues and the work out how to crack the code to find out final treasure. With our mission complete we bought some grow your our crystal and popcorn rock packs from the gems and minerals shop before having delicious homemade chicken noodle soup in the Atrium Cafe.

Over lunch it was decided we would return to the American History Museum as Connor wanted to spend more time looking through the section on American War History. We would then walk down Constitutional Avenue to the Einstein Monument and then back to the hotel via the Smithsonian Castle, which Ryan wanted to admire a little more. Another day of walking and sore feet but there is just so much to see. Back at the hotel it was time to finally uncover the hidden treasure. The boys seemed very pleased with their reward but as the letter with the treasure said "remember that as you go through life there are hidden opportunities around every corner if you are willing to keep your eyes open and seek out the treasure to be found".
