Fireworks Over Dinner

Saturday April 6th 2013

Despite having very sore and blistered feet, after a chat with someone he met on the street David decided we should go for a walk down to the Marina as he was told there were good places to eat there. We have discovered that there really aren't many food options near our hotel.

We set out to the Marina and for the first time came across houses and terraces that looked like people actually live in this city. Until now we haven't seen any areas that looked remotely residential. We arrived at the Marina and found large crowds of people as there was a festival - The Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival - as part of the celebrations of the national cherry blossom festival. This meant local eateries were full with a long wait or else we were down to street vendors again. David asked a local Police Officer who told him of a burger shop a few blocks away. After a long walk we found Z Burger.

There was a long line but the staff were incredibly efficient and we were served in no time. All the more amazing when we saw the volume of people coming through the doors and realised that all fries and onion rings etc were hand made. We even had a choice of 75 flavours of milkshake - the final choices - double chocolate, swiss chocolate, cookie dough and rocky road.

When our food came and we sat down to eat we were treated to the fireworks show as we could see many of the rockets going off above the nearby buildings. It was really beautiful and the food was delicious too. That said we are hoping to not have to consume too many more burgers and fries. Back to the hotel for a good nights rest before we board the Amtrak Train from Washington D.C. to New York in the morning. New York New York here we come!!!!
