We got in relatively late from the theatre last night and then with my cough worsening no matter how much water, lozenges, sitting upright etc that I tried I could not put an end to the coughing which in turn meant I could not sleep. I think I finally got to sleep around 4.30am. I was meant to go and meet with Sasha, a woman from the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society here in NY, this morning but given how terrible I was feeling, the lack of sleep and the freezing cold, raining weather I decided it was best to cancel. Thankfully, Sasha was very understanding and we will keep in contact and exchange information via email when I get home. I was sorry not to be able to spend some time with her.
After a little more sleep we went for a mid-morning brunch at Astros. Once we had eaten we decided it was best that we go back to the hotel and I spend the day indoors and resting. We can't pick specific triggers for the cough which is extremely frustrating but the cold weather certainly doesn't help. David and the boys went out exploring to see if they could find a computer game arcade but unfortunately had no luck. David and Connor also went out to try and find Vegemite. Again, unfortunately they were unsuccessful.
We spent the rest of the afternoon in the hotel watching TV and the boys played balloon volleyball. For dinner we met up with the Winklers. Glen had been doing some research on places to eat within 4 blocks. It was decided we would try a nearby Asian restaurant on 7th and 57th. We had to wait a while to get a table but the restaurant had great reviews and the Hotel Doorman also recommended it so we decided to wait. As it turned out it was well worth the wait. For appetisers we had salt and pepper squid and pork dumplings and the for mains the boys had special fried rice, I had Borneo Mandarin Orange Crispy Chicken and David decided to try sushi for the first time ever - Tiger rolls. The food was delicious and very filling. The waitress was concerned that perhaps we had ordered too much but on the whole we did a pretty good job of getting through it.
After dinner we went to the Morton & Williams Supermarket on 57th in search of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. This was a highly successful trip - Ben and Jerry's (Chuncky Monkey and Karamel Sultra), Hagen Daz (Chocolate Cookie Dough and Chocolate Choc Chip) and the ultimate, VEGEMITE!!!!!!! Breakfast will be a healthy serve of toast and vegemite tomorrow morning. We can't wait!!!!
